In regards to 52.1% agreeing to a suggested alternative date, 47.2% of respondents suggested the Kings Birthday Public Holiday be observed on Monday, 18 August 2025. Survey response comments gave the main reason for moving the date was to coincide with the Fortescue Festival weekend.
On further analysis of the 69 respondents feedback, the Shire population % vs participation %/ratios, and possible impact on those outside of Newman, the administration recommendation was that Council confirms its support for the retention of the declared Celebration Day for the Anniversary of the Birthday of the Reigning Sovereign (“the King’s Birthday Public Holiday”) as Monday, 29 September 2025.
