Project Description
Cape Keraudren is a key coastal destination within the East Pilbara, widely used for boating, fishing, camping and recreation by locals and visitors.
The Shire of East Pilbara is upgrading the Cape Keraudren boat ramp to improve safety, accessibility and usability for boat users and the wider community. The project focuses on practical improvements to support safer launching and retrieval of vessels in a remote coastal environment.
This upgrade forms part of the Shire’s broader Resilient by Design program, which is delivering essential infrastructure improvements across the East Pilbara.
Why the Boat Ramp Upgrade Is Needed
The existing boat ramp is only operational at high tides, subject to harsh tidal currents and is degraded.
Targeted upgrades are required to:
Improve safety for boat users
Provide more reliable access across a wider range of tides and conditions
Reduce risks associated with launching and retrieval
Improve durability and long-term performance in a remote marine environment.
The project responds to long-standing community use of the site and supports safe, ongoing access to a popular recreational area.
What the Project Will Deliver
The Cape Keraudren Boat Ramp Upgrade will deliver practical improvements focused on safety, functionality and longevity. Works may include (subject to environmental approvals):
Upgrades to the boat ramp structure
Improved launch and retrieval conditions
Associated access and safety improvements
Infrastructure designed for remote coastal conditions and long-term maintenance.
Final scope and sequencing will be confirmed as works progress.

Planning for the Cape Keraudren Boat Ramp Upgrade continues to progress, with the 75 per cent detailed design package now issued to the Shire for review.
Work is also continuing on the approvals needed to support the project. This has included engagement with the Wanparta Aboriginal Corporation Board and the appointment of consultants to undertake aquatic fauna, flora and fauna surveys.
These design and approval steps are important parts of preparing the project for future delivery and making sure the proposed works are properly assessed before construction begins.
Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.

Planning for the Cape Keraudren Boat Ramp Upgrade is continuing, with detailed design work now progressing toward the 75 per cent design stage.
A consultant was engaged in September 2025 to prepare the detailed design, which will help guide the proposed upgrade and identify the technical requirements needed before works can move toward delivery.
Initial Aboriginal heritage and environmental consultation has also progressed, helping to identify the approvals and assessments required for the project.
Further updates will be provided as planning continues, including any information about timing, site conditions or temporary access arrangements.
