Project Update - May 2026 | Groundbreaking Event

The Shire of East Pilbara has officially broken ground on the Newman Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade, marking the formal start of works on a major essential infrastructure project for Newman.

The groundbreaking event was held last week at the Wastewater Treatment Plant site, with representatives from the Shire and project team marking the start of the upgrade.

Detailed design continues to progress, supported by on-site surveys and geotechnical investigations. These steps help confirm site conditions and inform the final design and construction planning for the project.

The upgrade will strengthen Newman’s wastewater infrastructure and support future opportunities for greater recycled wastewater use across the town, including irrigation and greening projects.
