First season shows Nullagine Pool is already making a difference

The new Nullagine Pool has completed a strong first season, recording 2,188 entries between its grand opening in November 2025 and the end of the season in June 2026.

Early local data shows the pool is already becoming an important part of daily life in Nullagine, with the local No School, No Pool approach helping support school attendance and giving young people a practical reason to stay engaged.

Under the approach, students need to attend school if they want to use the pool. In the pool’s first season, local data showed a 25 per cent increase in school attendance and a 5 per cent increase in school enrolments. The local health clinic also reported a 35 per cent decrease in presentations for ear, nose, eye and skin conditions in children.

The facility also recorded an 85.70 per cent Public Safety Score through LGIS and Royal Life Saving Society WA.

Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton said the first season showed the value of investing in practical infrastructure for remote communities.

“Nullagine Pool has had a very strong first season, with more than 2,000 entries in a town of this size,” Cr Middleton said.

“What is most encouraging is the way the pool is being used as part of everyday community life. The No School, No Pool approach is simple and practical. If young people want to use the pool, they need to be at school.

“The first season has shown that the pool is already making a difference.”

The Nullagine Pool includes a four-lane 25 metre pool, toddler pool, changerooms, kiosk and first aid area, grassed spaces and shade sails.

The pool is now closed for the season and is expected to reopen in September.
