Project Update - June 2026 | Groundbreaking Complete and Site Works Progressing
The Shire of East Pilbara has officially broken ground on the Newman Youth and Community Hub, marking an important step forward for one of Newman’s major community infrastructure projects.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 at the future Hub site on the corner of Newman Drive and Iron Ore Parade, with community members, project partners and stakeholders attending to mark the formal start of construction.
Site establishment works are now progressing, with temporary fencing expected to be installed this week as the construction area is prepared for the next stage of works.
The fencing will help secure the site and allow early construction activities to begin safely. Community members travelling near the area may notice changes around the site as works get underway.
Once complete, the Newman Youth and Community Hub will bring together a community library, youth centre, recording studio, meeting rooms, recreation spaces and outdoor community areas into one connected precinct designed to support youth, learning and broader community wellbeing.
The project is part of the Shire’s broader Resilient by Design: Building a Sustainable East Pilbara initiative, which supports the delivery of integrated infrastructure and community projects across the region.
The project is being delivered through Shire investment alongside significant support from the Australian Government, the Western Australian Government and Lotterywest.
The Australian Government, Western Australian Government and Lotterywest are recognised as Major Supporters of the Newman Youth and Community Hub project.
